8/20 Downtime update

It seems like I have gotten a rare downtime this time of year (at least until 2 pm this afternoon). I got caught up with all my stuff and I did not have a session this morning, so I figured since I have a couple hours to kill, I would post a few more photos that I have shot in the past couple weeks since the last post. I have a feeling that by the time most people get to the end of this post they will be asking if I am insane. The answer to that is...probably not clinically but as you will see, sometimes craziness produces cool things. Enjoy!

Somebody please tell me why he is smiling!

Side note: I shot (no pun intended) this photo with my fisheye lense approximately 6 inches in front of the barrel, the ironic thing is that I am not a fan of guns, sort of a phobia that I have. Anyway the reasoning behind photos and angles like this, at least why I do them is because I am always asked if people can bring their own ideas in and I really encourage it, but that idea will always get my spin on it. With this photo, Ethan brought in his shotgun because he loves to hunt. I took a couple "traditional" type shots (gun on shoulder and then pointed, with me off to the side). Then I try to push the envelope, so to speak, and step in front of the barrel for MY spin on it. I try to do this type of thing whenever a request for something is given and there is an opportunity for something cool to be done. Anyway, I hardly think that I am a genius or anything like that, I am just trying to have a little fun. This summer I have definitely started to experiment a ton more than ever and I am having a blast, my hope is that my clients think my little experiments are as cool as I do! Anyway back to a few more shots of Ethan.

8/11 Monthly update

What is the most asked question of me lately? Let me tell you... Have you been staying busy? Everywhere you look you are hearing about the economy and how bad it is, which it is. I have been blessed thus far this year and have been staying busy, though in my eyes I can never be busy enough and I can never have enough business and I fee that the minute I get comfortable with being "busy enough" that my business as a whole will start declining. That said here are a few photos from some shoots that I have done in the last month. Warning to you though, there are a few "crazy" (as I like to call them) photos in here. I am trying to explore more edgy type stuff every now and then without completely going overboard because that is really what I love doing and lately I have come across a few clients who are keen for "experimenting" a bit. Also notice that you can now comment on this stuff by clicking on COMMENT at the bottom or here, so let me know what you think. Enjoy!

These are a few shots from Chantelle and Roy's engagements session in Stillwater. I will be shooting their wedding next month at Albertson's Farm in Stillwater.

Here is Hanna and she may look familiar because she has been here before. She was one of my Class of 2009 models. These are photos from here "real" senior session. Let me explain the last photo from her bunch. That is not a texture that I dropped onto her photo in Photoshop, it is a busted up windshield. I can not take all the credit for the idea, but I have to give props to Joey L. Who is Joey L? He is a young (19 years old) photographer from Canada who shoots a ton of rock bands for record companies. He did a shoot with the band Disturbed where a broken windshield was used, so that is where my idea came from, my perspective is a little different, but I think it is a cool idea regardless. Check out Joey's work here. And then scroll down and see more of my stuff including more windshield shots. Thanks again to Hanna for trying out crazy stuff like this for me and for promoting me to her friends and family.

Do you think his parents text?

These are a few shots from a family session on Gull Lake.

Here are a couple shots from Dana and John's wedding last month. They got married at a family friend's house on Nisswa Lake and then traveled by boat to Bar Harbor for a reception. I did not even meet the couple until the wedding day. I booked this wedding solely on a referral from a senior whom I shot last year. Referrals definitley fuel small businesses!

Here are some shots from a baby session turned family session! These guys are from St. Cloud and were spending time in the Brainerd area and tracked me down for the session.

This was Rohana's senior session. As you can see the windshield was used again and she said she really loved those shots as well as the others.

This is another family session on Gull Lake, this time it was at Madden's Resort.

These were from Heather's senior session. The only bad thing about her session was that she said she didn't want to tell any of her friends about me because she wanted to have the coolest senior photos in her school which is Onamia so nobody else from her class was allowed to call me, only next year's seniors. I hope that is a compliment...

Here is Matt from Pillager. He obviously plays the trumpet as well as golf. Check out his black t-shirt, if you can read it... It says "Oh Crap, you are going to try and cheer me up aren't you? That is hilarious, I need one of those

.These are from another baby session turned family session. Funny how that happens, huh? I seem to alway suggest it and rarely get rejected on the idea.

These next ones are from my wife's birthday last week. She wanted to go to Paul Bunyan Land east of Brainerd. I had never been there and it was mostly for our kids enjoyment which in turns make for parental enjoyment. I have to say I really did have fun, even though I do not go on rides. Zakkry and Sofie had a blast as you can see in the pictures. There are few of them together on rides and Zakk was told to hold on to his sister, so he put his arm around her to protect her. My favorite, however, is the one of him, with my wife and father-in-law on the Tilt-o-Whirl that he insisted on going on. He looks extremely scared (or sick), but the minute he got on, he could not wait for the next ride! I had to throw the family picture that we took with the cowboy statue. Do the kids not look really excited? We ended the day at the park walking around the old buildings in This Old Farm. Zakk got overly excited when he looked in a building a saw a bunch of toys including a Woody doll from Toy Story. He asked me, "Can you take a picture of me with Woody?" How could I not? After we left the park we went to Dawn's parent's house and went fishing. I caught a bass and let Zakk reel it in.
